Despite a star-studded cast, his second follow-up Chappie struggles as a mere cult classic. Set in South Africa, it was a humane story of a refugee crisis - despite the fact that all of the refugees were literal aliens. Writer-director Neill Blomkamp seemed like a visionary after the success of District 9 in 2009.
